Low profile, high impact

The complexity of narrow vein mining and the inherent dangers associated with it make it a unique endeavor for any operation. More, and new, choices are always welcome news.

Recently, global manufacturer Paus unveiled the newest product in its LVM line-up: the PScale 10-T LP, which was designed specifically for tight spaces.

“In the challenging world of mining and tunneling, navigating narrow veins presents a difficult undertaking,” the company told NAM. “From poor ventilation and high temperatures to low profile galleries, the demands of such environments are immense.”

It is that which drew it to create the PScale 10-T LP, which in design is based on the other Paus scalers like the Paus PScale 8-T and Paus PScale 10-T with a 20-degree tiltable cabin.

“Fast and reliable change of working locations in mines are ensured by the hydrostatic drive,” Paus said, pointing out that the PScale – being compact and powerful – is ideal for working heights up to 10 meters (about 32.8 feet).

The Paus PScale 10-T LP also comes with various changes to the machine design of Paus Scalers, but is just as compact and powerful, the company said: “At just 1.90 m (about 6.2 ft.) in height, the PScale 10-T LP navigates through low profile galleries with ease. The cabin is located to the side of the machine. It’s unique construction, coupled with generous cooling systems and a robust motor concept, ensures optimal performance in difficult conditions – making it perfect for low-clearance paths.”

Adaptability and flexibility are also key to the machine’s design; for example, the elevating cabin can be raised up to 500 mm (1.64 ft.). It additionally provides adaptability for better visibility and more comfort; a climate-controlled and vibration-dampened cabin has two joysticks for maneuvering the PScale 10-T LP, plus a remote control allows work from a safe distance or vantage point to enhancing efficiency and security.

“Add to this is the arm’s reach up to ten meters and it’s maneuverability thanks to a manipulator capable of multi-axis rotation and tilt,” Paus told NAM.

Despite the long reach, high stability is ensured by four sustainers. Accessibility and maintenance are also top priorities for the PScale 10-T LP. A hinged radiator provides quick access to vital components.

The first PScale is set for delivery to a German salt mine.

Other Paus machines suitable for use in narrow veins are the Uni 40, MinCa 5.1 and 18, PMK 10.000, PFL 8 and 10 the TSL 853 and others. All these machines are designed for use in difficult and small environments.
