Single fatality at Pennsylvania mine

Corsa Coal confirmed the death of one miner this week at its Acosta Deep Mine site in Somerset County, Pa.

The unidentified worker was found unresponsive during routine maintenance activities during the late morning hours local time on October 22, the company said Oct. 24.

There were no active operations at the Jenner Township mine on that day, and operations at Acosta have since recommenced.

Interim president and CEO Kevin Harrigan said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family and friends, and with our Corsa team at this incredibly difficult time. We will complete a thorough review and will issue further statements and provide additional information as appropriate.”

Corsa said that it is fully cooperating with the investigation that has opened to find the cause of the fatality.
