Conveyor Components unveils belt rip detector

Conveyor Components of Michigan has introduced the Model DB belt rip detector to save mines downtime and unneeded costs.

The mine- and quarry-duty detector operates on a cable-pull concept and its outputs can control up to four separate circuits – depending on the model chosen, as either SP/DT or DP/DT microswitches are available.

“When a belt flap or tear, of foreign obstruction such as a wrench or screwdriver or … rebar has pierced a conveyor belt, the cable releases the activation ball from its protective socket and trips the device,” the company explained.

The alarms on the detector can be selected for machinery shutdown, minimizing further damage, or for the alarm engagement alone.

The model DB is constructed of corrosion-resistant cast aluminum and has an optional polyester or black epoxy powder coating. A protective rubber boot on the cable can keep the activation mechanism clean and functional. If damaged, the component is easily replaced.
