MSHA, Association of Equipment Manufacturers renew alliance

The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration confirmed it has renewed its alliance with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) to ensure manufacturers and contractors have access to information, guidance, and training resources designed to protect the health and safety of miners.

MSHA’s renewed alliance with AEM – an association that works to advance construction and agricultural equipment manufacturers, including those providing equipment to the nation’s mines – emphasizes the safe use and operation of equipment at mines.

The alliance has several key provisions, including:

  • The designation of staff from MSHA’s Technical Support team to serve as a liaison to AEM.
  • Promotion of educational and training programs that address the safe and healthy maintenance and operation of equipment.
  • Review of final accident reports and data involving mobile and powered haulage equipment within AEM’s scope.
  • Participation in MSHA and AEM training, workshops, conferences and other opportunities where both parties can share information.

“The alliance with the nation’s equipment manufacturers honors our mission and reinforces our work together to protect the safety of miners across the country,” said Assistant Secretary for Mine Safety and Health Wayne Palmer. “Keeping miners safe is a top priority for our industry, and this renewed alliance with the Mine Safety and Health Administration reaffirms our shared commitment to protecting the people who work in and around mining equipment,” added Megan Tanel, president and CEO, AEM.

“Through continued collaboration with MSHA, AEM and our members can help advance safety education, share best practices, and support practical solutions that reduce risk and strengthen a culture of safety across the mining sector.”
