Ground control to the mining industry

Hosted by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME), the annual International Conference on Ground Control in Mining is the biggest event dedicated to advances and research in ground control mining. Industry professionals and experts come together in a forum setting to expedite practical solutions to problems within the sector.

Attendees will have the chance to participate in several technical sessions throughout the three-day conference at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/Southpointe. These sessions include Ground Support Optimization Using a Structed Strata Management Process in Wide Set-up Room Roadways at West Elk Mine; Applications of LiDAR in Underground Mines; Rock Mechanics Database for Coal; and Prediction of Ground Movements for Inclined Seams.

“ICGCM is committed to [offering] critical industry and technical knowledge, premier educational and professional development opportunities, and information access for ground control and mining practitioners around the world,” said show organizers.

Networking functions allow attendees to reconnect with old acquaintances and expand their professional networks with new connections. Moreover, the 2024 Annual Ground Control Golf Tournament, which takes place at Topgolf Pittsburgh on Wednesday, July 24, allows for an afternoon of fun and networking. A lively BBQ cookout will take place after the event at the hotel’s Washington Garden.

Registration is now open with early bird rates good through June 13. More information can be found at groundcontrolmining.org/register.
