Women in Mining USA takes on Elko

NAM editor Donna Schmidt will be on hand with hundreds of other women in mining and supporters for the WIM USA National Conference in Elko, Nevada, April 10-13.

The conference will combine group meetings as well as keynote speakers, panel discussions, professional development workshops, networking opportunities, and even a large group of options for day-long mine tours in the northern Nevada mine country.

The 2024 meeting, hosted by Women in Mining’s Nevada chapter, will begin with a volunteer event on April 10 as well as an advisory council meeting. The day will end with a dinner and dance at a nearby location.

On April 11 at the Elko Convention Center, the national conference has a full day planned with a number of conference activities. After welcoming remarks by speaker Teryn Faiman, Caterpillar group President – Resources Industries Denise Johnson will offer a keynote address.

Presentations that day will include “Empowering Better Wellness,” “Future of Mining: A Panel Discussion,” a leadership keynote, “A Conversation for Change Fostering a Sustainable and Inclusive Workforce” and “DEIdeas: Sparking Actionable Change Through Collaborative Conversations.”

Attendees to the meeting can, on April 12, opt for a leadership discussion “Arrive and Thrive” and leadership workshop, “Courageous and Conscious Leadership,” or one of five mine tours. They include a surface, underground or metallurgy mine tour at Nevada Gold Mines, a tour of Marigold and Lone Tree or a tour at the Kinross Bald Mountain operation.

Saturday will wrap up the event with a WIM USA board meeting.
