thyssenkrupp, Magotteaux extend composite tech partnership

thyssenkrupp Mining Technologies and Magotteaux have announced an extension of their long-time partnership on the development of wear parts using Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) technology.

MCC, which promises cost-efficient wear parts for both mining and aggregates, will also optimize wear part life spans. The two will focus on research as well as achieving even faster development times.

thyssenkrupp said Magotteaux has extensive expertise in MMC technology for wear-resistant castings, which has the ability to offer a better cost-to-benefit ratio.

“By expanding our partnership with Magotteaux, we are able to offer new, innovative solutions for wear parts that help our customers improve their operational performance and reduce costs on wear parts through longer service lives, thus benefiting economically,” said Georg Pahlenkemper, chief service officer for thyssenkrupp Mining Technologies.

He added that customers should see benefit from their work in the coming 12 months.

The alliance that has combined thyssenkrupp’s process expertise and Magotteaux’s manufacturing expertise has already bore fruit and achieved visible results for customers.

“For example, in the development of concaves for gyratory crushers, which were developed and introduced in 2021, currently showing proof that these efforts lead to success as the wear behavior is much better compared with standard wear parts, even under the toughest conditions,” thyssenkrupp officials said.

It has also secured further competencies in MMC technology via an exclusive license agreement with Innerco, a leading MMC firm that focuses on its development and implementation.

With these partnerships, thyssenkrupp said it will be one of just a few full-range suppliers of mining and aggregates equipment worldwide, and with the ability to secure faster development cycles for wear parts along the entire process chain.

“Mining customers of thyssenkrupp will benefit from strong and recognized partners that provide technical and operational excellence as well as unique know-how in the field of MMC technology and wear parts,” thyssenkrupp officials said.
