Hudbay Minerals has enabled a controlled, safe and orderly temporary suspension of operations at Snow Lake following a mandatory wildfire evacuation order for the area in northern Manitoba.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our employees, their families, local First Nations members and the communities we serve. With the current unprecedented dry conditions in northern Manitoba, our team continues to manage through the intermittent wildfire situation, and we are proud of the proactive actions taken to minimize impact to our people and our facilities,” said Rob Carter, Hudbay senior vice president, Canada.

“We expect a quick and safe return to full operations as soon as possible, and we will continue to work with local and provincial authorities to ensure continued rebuilding of our communities after this difficult wildfire season.”

Hudbay believes its Snow Lake infrastructure and facilities are well-protected from the wildfires and have a low risk of being damaged. The miner said activities in Flin Flon continue unaffected, while some exploration activities near Snow Lake have been paused.

Despite the temporary wildfire impacts, Hudbay said it expects to achieve its annual guidance metrics for Manitoba in 2025.
