Imperial Metals and its Mount Polley Mining arm, which suffered a high-profile tailings storage facility failure in August 2014, has been served a notice of charges alleging violations of the Fisheries Act in Canada.
Engineering firm Wood Canada was also named in the allegation notice involving the British Columbia operation.
The charges are outlined in an indictment filed with the Supreme Court of British Columbia on December 6, which the company received December 9.
The miner declined comment, only stating: “As this matter is before the courts, the Company does not intend to make further public statements.”
Imperial wholly owns Mount Polley. It also holds the Huckleberry mine and owns a 30% stake in the Red Chris mine alongside a portfolio of 23 greenfield exploration properties in British Columbia.
