An explosion at a coal mine run by Madanjoo Co. in eastern Iran on September 21 has killed at least 51 people and injured 20, according to state news agency IRNA. The blast was reportedly caused by a methane gas leak in blocks B and C of the mine.
The mine, which is located in Tabas, covers an area of more than 30,000 square kilometers.
This is not the first mining disaster for Iran. A blast in 2017 killed 43 miners in Azadshahr, noted the BBC, while an explosion at a coal mine last year in Damghan killed six.
