Environment and Climate Change Canada has laid five charges against Teck Coal for allegedly dumping harmful substances into bodies of water in southeastern British Columbia that are frequented by fish, reported The Canadian Press.
The government department said the charges stem from an investigation that began last March in which it looked into an allegation that the miner deposited harmful substances into Dry Creek from its Line Creek coal mine, and into the adjacent Fording River.
The charges against Teck Coal have not yet been tested in court. Environment Canada did not say if a court date has been set.
Teck recently closed the sale of its B.C. coal mining operations to Glencore.
