The National Mine Rescue Association (NMA) is celebrating a century of mine rescue in 2024, and is currently lining up some recognitions this year to mark the milestone.
The NMRA was formed in Leisenring, Pa., on September 6, 1924, with charter members that included George S. McCaa, well known for the McCaa breathing apparatus.
The association said it has created a challenge coin which will be given to the teams at the National Mine Rescue competition in Lexington, Ky., this August, and it is also producing a book noting some special historical information regarding the NMRA.
A spotlight of the celebration will be a banquet, set for November 23, 2024, at the Hollywood Casino in Meadowlands, Pa. More information regarding the event, including times, menu and meal price will be sent soon, but the group is asking potential guests to save the date.
As the event planning continues, the NMRA stressed it is seeking sponsors to help with costs, each one will be given space in the NMRA Anniversary booklet.
