Canadian-based miner IAMGOLD has completed its first gold pour at the Côté Gold mine in the Sudbury District of Ontario, less than 90 days since the start of pre-commissioning activities.

“This achievement represents the culmination of over 15 million hours of work over four years of construction – an incredible effort for the team on the ground as the project cost to first gold remains in line with the updated budget estimate while maintaining a near impeccable safety record,” said President and CEO Renaud Adams.

The miner will now focus on ramping up the operation to commercial production in the third quarter toward the goal of ending 2024 with a 90% throughput rate. Once at the steady run-rate, Côté Gold is expected to be among the largest operating gold mines in Canada.

Côté Gold is operated as a joint venture between IAMGOLD (60%) and Sumitomo Metal Mining (40%).
