USGS report: Billions of coal reserves beneath federal lands

The Department of the Interior released a U.S. Geological Survey report detailing coal resources beneath federally managed public lands in the United States. The report estimates that there are 4.2 billion short tons of coal reserves associated with active mines and an additional 356 billion short tons of available coal resources.
