Agnico Eagle’s LaRonde gold mine, located west of Val-d’Or, Quebec, is the world’s first underground mine to deploy Epiroc’s new Diamec automated rod magazine (ARM). The system aims to keep operators safer by moving them farther from risk zones while improving operational efficiency.

First introduced at PDAC 2026, the system automates rod-handling functions, including rods, swivel rods, and inner tube handling, while reducing manual intervention and operator exposure to repetitive and potentially hazardous tasks.
The world-first commissioning was made possible through the partnership among Epiroc, LaRonde, and underground drilling contractor Machines Roger International.
“This collaboration showcases the benefits of utilizing new technology to safely enhance the drilling experience underground,” stated Michelle White, business line manager, Ore Body Solutions at Epiroc.
