BHP announced several changes to the executive leadership team, including splitting the President Americas role into president North America and president South America to allow for a greater focus on each region.

Jessica Farrell, current vice president of Innovation, has been appointed president North America, effective July 1. She will also serve as interim president South America while the recruitment process continues. Farrell has more than 20 years of experience and a proven track record of navigating complex transitions while prioritizing safety, employee and community outcomes.

Additionally, the global miner announced the following changes effective Sept. 1:

  •  Edgar Basto, current chief operating officer, will report to the CEO as chief enterprise performance officer. In this new capacity, he will remain accountable for BHP’s Health Safety and Security and the BHP Operating System. In addition, Basto will be accountable for strengthening contractor safety and further embedding operating discipline and performance across the enterprise.
  • Geraldine Slattery, current president Australia, will also assume responsibility for Copper South Australia, bringing all of the Australian operating assets together under her leadership.

“These new appointments ensure that we continue to build organisational capacity, with the right mix of skills, experience and perspectives to deliver BHP’s strategy and pursue our growth agenda,” said incoming CEO Brandon Craig, who assumes the position on July 1.
