The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation<\/a> (CEMI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DIGITAL, Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for digital technologies to foster innovation, collaboration, and global opportunities for the Canadian mining sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made at the BC Natural Resources Forum 2025, where DIGITAL CEO Sue Paish highlighted the success of the Mining Microbiome Analytics Platform (M-MAP). This initiative, part of DIGITAL\u2019s portfolio, involved collaboration between CEMI, Teck, BGC Engineering, Rio Tinto, UBC, Genome BC, and others. M-MAP has revolutionized resource extraction and mine site remediation by identifying microbes that can replace traditional chemicals used in extraction and remediation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new MOU with CEMI builds on such successes, aiming to drive collaboration and growth within the mining sector, leveraging cutting-edge Canadian mining technologies to address future challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DIGITAL said that, since 2018, it has developed a mining portfolio exceeding $95 million, resulting in world-first technologies and significant scaling opportunities for Canadian mining tech companies. This MOU will further enhance the competitiveness, environmental sustainability, and profitability of Canada\u2019s resource industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis agreement represents a vital step forward in uniting Canadian expertise to tackle the global challenges facing the mining industry. By working together with DIGITAL, we aim to create a more innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive mining sector that leverages the best of Canadian ingenuity,\u201d said Douglas Morrison, President and CEO, CEMI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
