{"id":8582,"date":"2024-09-27T12:11:52","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T12:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=8582"},"modified":"2024-09-27T12:12:14","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T12:12:14","slug":"msha-reports-18th-fatality-of-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/27\/msha-reports-18th-fatality-of-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"MSHA reports 18th fatality of 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSHA reported that on Aug. 22, a contractor at East Quarry, Tulsa, Okla., was installing a material feeder when they fell approximately 21 ft. through an opening in the walkway platform.&nbsp; The contractor died from his injuries on Sept. 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the 18th fatality reported in 2024, and the second classified as \u201cSlip or Fall of Person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSHA recommends the following best practices to avoid this type of accident:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct workplace examinations to identify conditions that may adversely affect the safety or health of miners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide and maintain safe access to all working places. Use personnel lifts or ladders to access elevated workplaces safely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide and ensure proper use of fall protection where there is a danger of falling.
