{"id":8215,"date":"2024-08-26T13:23:52","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T13:23:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=8215"},"modified":"2024-10-10T15:25:05","modified_gmt":"2024-10-10T15:25:05","slug":"msha-issues-alert-on-tire-explosion-during-equipment-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/26\/msha-issues-alert-on-tire-explosion-during-equipment-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"MSHA issues alert on tire explosion during equipment fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSHA reported that on June 14, one firefighter died, and another was injured at Robar Enterprises Inc., Los Angeles, when a front-end loader tire exploded while firefighters fought an equipment fire.<br><br>MSHA recommends the following best practices to avoid this type of accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the event of a possible or actual fire (e.g., odor, heat, smoke, flames):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stop the machine, lower all attachments, set the parking brake, and turn the equipment off.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actuate the machine-mounted fire suppression system, if available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safely exit the machine and retreat to a safe location, preferably 1,000 feet away.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Warn all others in the vicinity of the fire, notify management, and contact appropriate emergency personnel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not attempt to extinguish a tire fire with a hand-held extinguisher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait for emergency responders to arrive. Stay clear of the fire.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From a distance, emergency personnel can use a fire or water truck to cool down the equipment.
