{"id":7161,"date":"2024-04-08T19:45:06","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T19:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=7161"},"modified":"2024-04-08T19:45:12","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T19:45:12","slug":"wvca-recognizes-operations-contractors-for-safety-reclamation-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/08\/wvca-recognizes-operations-contractors-for-safety-reclamation-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"WVCA recognizes operations, contractors for safety, reclamation excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the West Virginia Mining Symposium, which took place March 26-27 in Charleston alongside the West Virginia Coal Show, the West Virginia Coal Association recognized and celebrated exemplary mine safety and environmental excellence achievements of mining industry operations across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the West Virginia Office of Miners\u2019 Health, Safety &amp; Training co-sponsor this special mining awards program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SAFETY AWARDS<\/strong><br>\u201cSafety always has been and continues to be our top priority in the coal industry,\u201d said West Virginia Coal Association President Chris Hamilton. \u201c2023 was a record setting year for industry safety and our members demonstrate the highest levels of dedication to protecting our coal miners.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inspectors with the West Virginia Office of Miners\u2019 Health, Safety and Training (WVOMHST) evaluate all coal operations and contractors to nominate the winners. WVOMHST Director Frank Foster presented the awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2023 Governor\u2019s Milestones of Safety Awards presented during the event include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Best of Class Statewide Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eustace E. brightest in the industry are right here in West Virginia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS<\/strong><br>\u201cThis year\u2019s reclamation award winners are proof positive that the best environmentalists out there are in the coal industry,\u201d said West Virginia Coal Association Vice President Jason Bostic. \u201cOur members display a firm commitment to environmental protection and creative, responsible reclamation in West Virginia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inspectors with the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) selected the winners, and DEP\u2019s Mining &amp; Reclamation Director Jonathan Rorrer handed out the awards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Environmental Excellence awards presented during the event include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The top award \u2013 the Greenlands Award, went to Arch Resources\u2019 Wolf Run Mining Company LLC, Leer South Complex and Allegheny Metallurgical\u2019s Century Mine Complex.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Special Community Recovery Award was presented to Blackhawk Mining\u2019s Kanawha Eagle Mining LLC and the Community Involvement Award was presented to Arch Resources\u2019 Wolf Run Mining Company LLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
