NAM<\/em> was on the sidelines of this year\u2019s Fallen Heroes Mine Rescue Contest, which brought together more than two dozen teams from the Appalachian region together to show off their best skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted at the West Virginia Training and Conference Center and nearby Chief Logan Recreation Center in the heart of southern West Virginia, and hosted by the Central Appalachia Joseph A Holmes Safety Association, the groups took part in mine emergency rescue drills, first aid, smoke scenarios and other skills tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third annual competition doubled in size since 2022, when 12 teams participated. It is always held the week of September 11, created to commemorate those lost in 2001 as well as the nation\u2019s miners who have also given their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The overall winner of the mine rescue event was the CONSOL Energy Bailey Blue Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials at the West Virginia Training and Conference Center said having the event there offers a number of advantages to mine rescue crews, including a dedicated space and the ability to experience mock problems in a real-world environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[The facility is] designed specifically for mine training ensures that the training environment closely mimics real-life mining conditions, enhancing the authenticity and effectiveness of the drills,\u201d said director Frank Foster. \u201cThe WVTCC is equipped with cutting-edge technology, a state-of-the-art underground simulated mine lab and specialized equipment, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning experience for mine rescue teams.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
