{"id":6239,"date":"2023-11-01T13:44:27","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T13:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=6239"},"modified":"2023-11-01T13:49:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T13:49:29","slug":"rio-tinto-teams-with-prysmian-on-sustainable-materials-supply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/01\/rio-tinto-teams-with-prysmian-on-sustainable-materials-supply\/","title":{"rendered":"Rio Tinto teams with Prysmian on sustainable materials supply"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rio Tinto said that it and cable solution provider Prysmian are partnering to build a more sustainable North American supply chain for materials needed to expand power grids for the energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To help satisfy an increased demand, Rio Tinto and Prysmian signed a five-year supply agreement for low-carbon aluminium made with renewable hydropower from Rio Tinto\u2019s Canadian operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agreement will support Prysmian\u2019s decarbonization drive toward achieving its objective to be carbon neutral by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two companies also signed a joint development agreement to leverage their technologies, research and development capabilities, and technical expertise to develop multi-material solutions in support of North America\u2019s growing electrification demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese types of products are critical for the power grid expansion that is needed for the transition to renewable energy sources and a low carbon future,\u201d said Rio Tinto Vice President of Aluminium Sales Amy Abraham.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prysmian Group North America CEO Andrea Pirondini added: \u201cIt is an exciting time to work with Rio Tinto and source this green aluminium that will guide us towards a more sustainable value chain for cable production.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Source: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.riotinto.com\/\"><em>Rio Tinto<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rio Tinto said that it and cable solution provider Prysmian are partnering to build a more sustainable North American supply chain for materials needed to expand power grids for the energy transition.
