More than 450 attendees are expected to convene October 31-November 3 for this year\u2019s Southeast Mine Safety and Health Conference in Birmingham, Ala., with \u201cTaking Ownership of Safety and Health\u201d as its theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A full schedule has been prepared for the event being held again at the Renaissance Ross Bridge in Hoover, beginning with an optional short course on Oct. 31 that has two tracks: NIOSH Research to Practice Health Interventions, Technologies and Training or Contractor and Maintenance Safety and Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organizers told NAM<\/em> editor Donna Schmidt, who will be present at the conference as part of an extended media partnership with the conference host and North American Mining <\/em>magazine, that 46 exhibitors will be lining the halls and various conference rooms at the Ross Bridge. Nov. 1 and 2 will be full-day conference itineraries while Friday, Nov. 3 will adjourn after a half day of sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some items from the Southeast Health and Safety schedule include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The conference hosts will be hosting a special outing during the conference, a four-man scramble on Oct. 31 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Course at Ross Bridge. The event will have a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. CT. Golf club rental sets are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additionally, a charity dinner on Thursday, Nov. 2 will begin at 5.30 p.m. with all proceeds being donated to UAB\u2019s Deep South Center, School of Public Health, Industrial Hygiene Program, Southeast Mine Safety and Health Scholarship; Southeast Area’s Student AIHA Section; UAB\u2019s, Engineering Department, Safety Program, Dr. Martha Bidez Memorial Scholarship; and Southeast Area’s Student ASSP Chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ross Bridge hotel block is now closed, but registration remains open and nearby hotels still have space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More information on the event can be found at www.southeastmineconf.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
