{"id":4639,"date":"2023-05-08T15:12:53","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T15:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=4639"},"modified":"2023-05-08T15:13:33","modified_gmt":"2023-05-08T15:13:33","slug":"msha-issues-safety-alert-for-fall-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/08\/msha-issues-safety-alert-for-fall-prevention\/","title":{"rendered":"MSHA issues safety alert for fall prevention"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration recently released a safety alert to prevent falls from height to address a lengthy trend of injuries and deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the agency, 22 miners and contractors have been fatally injured in fall-from-height accidents over the past decade, and more than 1,000 have been disabled or lost time from work over the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, MSHA stressed, more than 100 fatal and serious injuries are reported in these accidents each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is now stressing operators work to prevent these injuries by providing walkways and platforms with handrails that provide safe access, and by using adequate fall protection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSHA is also highlighting these best practices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce hazards. Design work areas and develop job tasks to minimize fall hazards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a program. Establish an effective fall prevention and protection program. Provide task and site-specific hazard training that prohibits working at unprotected locations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide fall protection to each miner who may work at an elevated height, or a location unprotected by handrails.
