Anglo American\u2019s De Beers will begin the new year with new leadership, as it has appointed Al Cook as its CEO and current CEO Bruce Cleaver to co-chairman of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The move, which will be effective in early 2023, comes as Cleaver opted to step back into a non-executive role after six years in his seat as CEO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cook, a 25-year international leadership veteran, most recently led Equinor\u2019s multi-billion dollar global E&P business across Africa, the Americas and Europe. He also previously led Equinor\u2019s global strategy and business development, developing the company\u2019s net zero strategy, the operator\u2019s executives noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cook commented that he is honored to lead the company behind the world\u2019s leading diamond brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThroughout my career, I have been passionate about bringing enduring economic, social and environmental value to host countries and communities. I deeply recognise the importance of De Beers\u2019 approach to responsible mining \u2013 most notably in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. It is our responsibility to work with the industry on continuing to fulfill the true promise of diamonds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cleaver agreed, calling it a \u201ctremendous privilege\u201d to have led such an iconic company as De Beers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
