{"id":2346,"date":"2022-04-19T13:58:06","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T13:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=2346"},"modified":"2022-04-19T13:59:52","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T13:59:52","slug":"msha-reports-12th-fatality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2022\/04\/19\/msha-reports-12th-fatality\/","title":{"rendered":"MSHA reports 12th fatality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has reported that on\u00a0March 22,\u00a0a 44-year-old heavy equipment operator drowned at an AMI Silica operation in Jackson County, Wis., after the floating pump station he was standing on capsized.\u00a0At the time of the accident, the miner was assisting a co-worker in connecting a water discharge line.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the&nbsp;12th&nbsp;fatality reported in 2022, and the first classified as \u201cDrowning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSHA recommends the following best practices to avoid this type of accident:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Design and use floating platforms in a manner that complies with the manufacturer\u2019s specifications and recommendations.<\/li><li>Before working on a floating platform:<ul><li>Implement safe work procedures that take into account potential hazards from rain, ice, freezing temperatures, and other environmental conditions.<\/li><li>Perform adequate work place examinations, especially on floating platforms that are infrequently used.
