{"id":2291,"date":"2022-04-12T19:49:16","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T19:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=2291"},"modified":"2022-06-10T17:50:46","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T17:50:46","slug":"nevada-no-longer-top-region-for-global-mining-fraser-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2022\/04\/12\/nevada-no-longer-top-region-for-global-mining-fraser-institute\/","title":{"rendered":"Nevada no longer top region for global mining: Fraser Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Independent think tank Fraser Institute has released the findings of its third Annual Survey of Mining Companies, revealing that it is Western Australia \u2013 no longer Nevada \u2013 that is the most attractive jurisdiction for mining investment in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, according to the report released April 12, Nevada has slipped to third, now also behind Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The non-partisan group compiled 84 global jurisdictions and examined geologic attractiveness for minerals and metals, as well as government policies \u201cthat encourage or deter\u201d mining investments and exploration efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Americas did fare well overall in the top 10, also taking fourth (Alaska), fifth (Arizona) and Idaho placed seventh. Quebec was sixth and Yukon was ninth; in eighth and tenth, respectively, were Morocco and South Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rounding out the least attractive was Zimbabwe, according to the report\u2019s findings. Spain, DRC, Mali, and Nicaragua also placed in the 80s of the rankings, beaten out in relative terms by China, Panama, Argentina, Venezuela and South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2292\" src=\"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/fraser_survey.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/fraser_survey.jpg 800w, https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/fraser_survey-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA sound regulatory regime coupled with competitive taxes make a jurisdiction attractive to investors,\u201d said Jairo Yunis, Fraser Institute policy analyst and report co-author.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a positive note, Fraser said in its Overall Investment Attractiveness Index that Saskatchewan has ranked in the global top three for the fourth time in five years, having jumped from third in 2020 to second in 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Yukon went from 18th last year to ninth this year.
