The U.S. Department of Energy said in a Federal Register announcement last week that the National Coal Council is being re-established as the National Advisory Committee on Coal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The agency said the change is being made \u201cin light of DOE\u2019s commitment to fully evaluate the need to expand the scope of advisory work of the committee\u201d following a two-month lapse in the NCC\u2019s charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The council will still advise the U.S. Secretary of Energy on \u201cgeneral policy matters relating to coal issues,\u201d the notice said. However, it modernized the charter to \u201creflect matters currently faced by the coal industry, workers, and communities\u201d in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The re-establishment is for a two-year period, the DOJ confirmed, and will include a \u201cwell-balanced representation\u201d after the NCC received criticism for being pro-industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
