Full-scale construction has officially commenced at one of Canada\u2019s biggest new gold operations, with the breaking of ground by Equinox Gold at its Greenstone operation northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Greenstone, with a 14-year mine life, is controlled by a 60-40 joint venture between Equinox and Orion Mine Finance Group. It is projected to produce over 400,000 ounces annually over its initial five years of life and 5 million ounces over its lifespan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early works on the mine began during the second quarter of this year, so progress has been consistent. An Oct. 27 groundbreaking ceremony was attended by\u00a0Knowledge Keeper Andrea O’Nabigon of Long Lake #58 First Nation; Chief\u00a0Theresa Nelson\u00a0of Animbiigoo Zaagi’igan Anishinaabek; Chief\u00a0Dorothy Towedo\u00a0of Aroland First Nation; Chief\u00a0Sherry Taylor\u00a0of Ginoogaming First Nation; Chief\u00a0Judy Desmoulin\u00a0of Long Lake #58 First Nation;\u00a0William Gordon\u00a0of the M\u00e9tis Nation of\u00a0Ontario; Honorable Minister Greg Rickford, Northern Development, Mines,\u00a0Natural Resources and Forestry and Minister of Indigenous Affairs; and Mayor\u00a0Renald Beaulieu\u00a0from the municipality of Greenstone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEquinox Gold continues to focus on its strategy of sector-leading growth, launching Greenstone mine development as construction at our\u00a0Santa Luz\u00a0mine in\u00a0Brazil\u00a0is nearing completion,\u201d CEO\u00a0Christian Milau said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGreenstone Mine is located in one of the world’s best mining jurisdictions and will be a top-tier mine, producing more than 400,000 ounces of gold per year at all-in-sustaining costs in the lowest quartile of the industry. Greenstone mine will be a cornerstone asset for Equinox Gold and a transformative project for\u00a0northern Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First gold pour at Greenstone is set for the first half of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
