(Wade Mathews)<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leveraging underutilized land, the U.S. Army announced the conditional award of long-term leases to four companies to design, finance, build and operate critical mineral processing facilities on Army installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These awards mark the first time the Army\/Department of War has sited commercial mineral processing facilities on American military installations, a direct execution of President Trump\u2019s Executive Order 14241. The <em>leases<\/em> were awarded to the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Energy X, <em>Red River Army Depot<\/em> (Texas) for lithium.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Empire State Mines, a wholly owned subsidiary of Titan Mining, <em>Anniston Army Depot<\/em> (Ala.) and <em>Pine Bluff Arsenal<\/em> (Ark.) for graphite.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ioneer, <em>Tooele Army Depot <\/em>(Utah) for boron.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>REalloys, <em>Tooele Army Depot <\/em>(Utah) for dysprosium and terbium.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ability to process critical minerals on U.S. soil is a national-defense priority required for munitions, missiles, sensors, batteries and the platforms our Soldiers depend on,\u201d said Dr. Jeff Waksman, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLeveraging our legal authorities and land, the U.S. Army is able to help nurture a critical minerals industrial base which equips and sustains America\u2019s Soldiers without putting any taxpayer dollars at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Formal lease agreements with the companies are in negotiation.
