FPX Nickel\u2019s Baptiste nickel project has been designated a major priority project by the British Columbia government. Baptiste is the only critical minerals project owned by a junior mining company to be included in the province’s priority project list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are grateful that the government of British Columbia continues to recognize the significance of Baptiste, which has the potential to contribute over $45 billion of incremental GDP to the provincial economy over its projected 29-year mine life,” said Martin Turenne, FPX president and CEO. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are committed to deepening our ongoing collaboration with First Nations and the governments of British Columbia and Canada to develop a project that creates substantial and sustainable benefits while protecting the environment for future generations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This recognition is part of the development of British Columbia\u2019s Look West economic strategy \u2013 a targeted plan to advance major projects and strengthen economic security for both the province and Canada. A central pillar of the strategy is to accelerate job-creating projects by streamlining and expediting permitting, reducing barriers and delays, and eliminating duplication across regulatory frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, British Columbia referred the project to the Critical Minerals Office concierge service initiative, a provincial strategy action to enable the prioritization of critical minerals projects. Located in central B.C., Baptiste has the potential to be one of the lowest carbon-intensive nickel producers in the world, according to FPX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
