{"id":12467,"date":"2026-04-29T13:59:39","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T13:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/?p=12467"},"modified":"2026-04-29T14:02:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T14:02:08","slug":"msha-issues-alert-after-miner-struck-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/29\/msha-issues-alert-after-miner-struck-killed\/","title":{"rendered":"MSHA issues alert after miner struck, killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"306\" src=\"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/MSHA-fatality.jpg\" alt=\"MSHA-fatality\" class=\"wp-image-12469\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. Health and Safety Administration has issued an equipment safety alert just weeks after a miner died following a strike to the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On April 2, a shuttlecar operator died after being hit by falling rock from the mine roof while setting timber posts during retreat mining at Alpha Metallurgical Resources\u2019 Panther Eagle operating in West Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the seventh fatality reported in 2026, and the first classified as Fall of Roof or Back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MSH has recommended the following best practices to avoid future similar events at other mines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Know and follow all provisions in the approved roof control plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The use of Mobile Roof Supports provides greater support and eliminates the need for miners to install posts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never go under unsupported roof. Consider a roof with damaged or incomplete support as unsupported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t travel inby posts installed during retreat mining.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Danger-off hazardous areas until appropriate corrective measures are taken.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct thorough examinations of the roof, face, and ribs where miners will be working or traveling.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Source: msha.gov<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Health and Safety Administration has issued an equipment safety alert just weeks after a miner died following a strike to the face.
