Komatsu is touting the benefits of easier operation, lower cost, higher productivity and improved efficiency in the introduction of its newest mining loader, the WA900-8R.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Announced in July, the new machine has the OEM\u2019s SmartLoader Logic technology on-board to provide optimised torque for every duty cycle stage. According to National Product Manager Mark Summerville, the feature boost fuel economy by up to 10% versus its previous model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The loader, which replaces the WA900-3EO, also includes a KomVision obstacle detection system, which utilizes radar and 360-degree cameras to alert and prompt operators to react if a person, vehicle or obstacle is detected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WA900-8R is powered by a Komatsu SAA12V140E-7 engine rated at 671 kW, and has an operating weight of 116.4 tonnes. It is matched for loading 90-t dump trucks (Komatsu HD785 size) in standard configuration, and up to 140-t trucks (Komatsu HD1500) in high-lift spec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other productivity and economy features include a tyre slip control system and increased boom speed and breakout force and the addition of a modulation clutch for controlling speed and torque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Komatsu noted the loader\u2019s hydraulics have been designed around its closed-centre load sensing system (CLSS) technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis uses a variable displacement piston pump combined with CLSS to deliver hydraulic flow exactly when the task requires it, preventing wasted hydraulic flow, which further contributes to better fuel economy,\u201d Summerville added, noting the loader \u2013 in addition to having its latest-generation cab for improved safety and comfort \u2013 also has a trainer seat, shockless stop cylinders and climate control.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese features, combined with ergonomic improvements, all contribute to higher operator productivity, easier and safer operation, and reduced fatigue [including] a new automatic digging system; a semi-automatic approach and dump system; a completely redesigned large operator cabin seat, incorporating low-effort control levers and an advanced joystick steering system; [and] an electronically controlled suspension system (ECSS) (to reduce pitching and bouncing on uneven surfaces).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new WA900-8R with a standard boom has an operating weight of 116.4 tonnes, a bucket capacity range between 11 to 13 m3<\/sup>, and a Tier 2-compliant Komatsu SAA12V140E-7 engine rated at 671 kW at 2,050 rpm. Its dump height is 4,610 mm with a static tipping load, a 40-degree turn, 63,610 kg and a bucket breakout of 71,900 kgf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the high-lift boom, it has an operating weight of 116.72 tonnes, a bucket capacity range of 9.9 to 11.5 m3<\/sup>, a Komatsu SAA12V140E-7 engine that is Tier 2 emissions compliant and rated at 671 kW at 2,050 rpm. Its dump height is 5,225 mm with static tipping load, a 40-degree turn, 58,100 kg and a bucket breakout of 77,000 kgf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In related news, the OEM announced the new Joy HRX 1000 hard rock sizer recently to combat the issue many traditional sizers struggle with \u2013 crushing abrasive, sticky materials without clogging.
