Ohio-based Force Control Industries<\/strong> introduces an updated line of Positorq tension control brakes designed for precision dynamometer and unwind applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brakes deliver exceptionally smooth, accurate torque control across the entire operating range to 0 rpm. Because torque output is governed strictly by pneumatic or hydraulic actuation pressure, operators can achieve repeatable, chatter-free performance without stick-slip, torque drift, or the marking issues common during leveling, polishing, and coating operations.<\/p>\n\n\n

Available in continuous slip torque ratings from 17 lb.-ft. up to 300,000 lb.-ft. and continuous thermal capacities up to 3,000 thermal horsepower, Positorq brakes are engineered for heavy-duty tension control environments, including steel mill unwind stands, coil slitters, paper unwind applications, and dynamometers that require extremely high torque at very low speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance and longevity of Positorq brakes stem from Force Control\u2019s proven oil shear technology. Unlike dry friction brakes that rely on direct contact \u2014 and therefore require frequent adjustment and replacement \u2014 oil shear technology uses a thin film of automatic transmission fluid between the friction disc and drive plate. As the fluid is compressed, its molecules, in shear, transmit torque smoothly and consistently. Because the fluid carries most of the load, wear is nearly eliminated, resulting in dramatically longer service life and no routine adjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Totally-enclosed housings further protect against dust, scale, chips, and moisture, ensuring reliable torque output in challenging environments like steel mills or other dirty industrial settings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recirculation System: Cooling Where It Counts<\/strong>
Beyond torque transmission, oil shear technology is paired with a patented fluid recirculation system that continuously moves fluid through the friction zone to carry heat away and dissipate it through the housing. This prevents the thermal buildup that commonly limits the performance of dry brakes. The circulating fluid also lubricates internal components \u2013 including splines and bearings \u2013 significantly extending overall service life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For continuous slip applications, brakes are typically paired with a closed-loop cooling and filtration system.\u00a0Forced-lube cooling systems are specifically designed to each application and provide exceptional heat dissipation without increasing brake size. In most cases, oil is forced through the center of the brake shaft (hub) and dispersed across friction surfaces through cross drills located on the splined hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With sound levels typically below 50 dB, Positorq brakes allow operators to work comfortably in close proximity to the equipment, even under heavy load. For indoor settings, be mindful of pumps or heat exchanger fans integrated on the cooling system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because torque output is directly proportional to the supplied actuation pressure \u2014 independent of speed \u2014 Positorq brakes offer predictable linear control. Their multiple friction surfaces provide high torque in a compact, low-inertia package, ensuring fast dynamic response. Smooth, consistent actuation is further ensured through Teflon-lined O-ring seals on the non-rotating piston.
