The second phase of closure will take place from Sept. 7-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In all, 180 workers will be permanently laid off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"261\" src=\"http:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/acnr_coal.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-843\" srcset=\"https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/acnr_coal.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/acnr_coal-300x76.jpg 300w, https:\/\/northamericanmining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/acnr_coal-768x196.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mine is owned by American Consolidated Natural Resources, which is the company that emerged from the bankruptcy proceedings of Ohio-based coal miner Murray Energy last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Murray and its late namesake, Robert E. Murray, purchased the mine along with four others, all longwalls, in 2013 from CONSOL Energy in a $3.5 billion deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2018, the coal mine produced about 4.4 million tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACNR produces a combined 49 million tons of coal annually from its operations in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Alabama and Utah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The longtime underground coal operation formerly known as Blacksville 2 has begun its permanent shutdown in northern West Virginia.
